Trillevallen – mountain traditions meet new experiences

Trillevallen combines authentic mountain charm with fresh experiences. Start the day on one of the 120 km of groomed trails, or take the lift and enjoy the alpine views. In the evening, enjoy great food in the restaurant or relax by the fireplace.

Trillevallen’s High Mountain Hotel is one of the few classic mountain hotels in the region – welcoming winter guests since 1938. It combines cosy mountain hospitality with modern comfort: 40 rooms, around 126 beds, a restaurant serving hearty mountain cuisine, and a relaxed lounge bar. Children can enjoy their own playroom next to the restaurant. In the Wolf Room, warm up by the fire and enjoy good company.

Vålådalen – wilderness, ski touring, and sporting legacy

Vålådalen is a legendary destination with a rich sporting history, set deep in the wilderness. It offers top-class cross-country trails, attracting both elite athletes and keen amateurs. Facilities include a sports hall, gym, and a small alpine slope. After an active day, unwind in the sauna hut or hot tubs under the stars, before dinner at Olga’s Dining Room, renowned for its outstanding cuisine.

Vålådalen is also the gateway to ski touring adventures in the Vålådalen Quadrangle. Need breakfast, supplies or to rent gear? The mountain station can help you prepare for your journey to the Lunndörren mountain cabin. The full tour includes four daily stages with overnight stays in Lunndörren, Vålåstugorna, and Stensdalen. The best time to go is a mid-week trip from Sunday to Thursday in March or April.

Departures 2025/26

We operate trains to the mountains between 17 December 2025 and 3 May 2026. From Undersåker, transfers are available to Edsåsdalen, Trillevallen, and Vålådalen Mountain Station for the entire season.

Departures are coordinated with the main changeover days for accommodation – Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

New for this season: Trains also depart from Gothenburg!

Train from Malmö via Stockholm to the Southern Åre Mountains

Trains depart from Malmö on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 17 December 2025 and 2 May 2026, except on 24 and 31 December. The route goes via Lund, Hässleholm, Alvesta, Nässjö, Linköping, Norrköping, Stockholm and Uppsala, arriving in Undersåker the following morning. Additional departures run on Sundays 21 and 28 December, and 4 January.

Return trains depart on Thursday or Sunday afternoons from 18 December 2025 to 3 May 2026, except on 25 December and 1 January. The train arrives in Uppsala and Stockholm in the evening and at the other stations the next morning. Extra return services are available on Mondays 22 and 29 December, and 5 January.

Train from Malmö via Gothenburg to the Southern Åre Mountains

Trains depart from Malmö on Fridays from 19 December 2025 to 13 February 2026, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4 March to 2 May 2026. Additional services run on 17, 21 and 28 December 2025, and 4 January 2026.

This service runs via Lund, Helsingborg, Halmstad and Gothenburg, arriving in Undersåker the next morning.

Return trains depart on Saturdays from 27 December 2025 to 21 February 2026, and on Thursdays and Sundays from 5 March to 3 May 2026, with arrival in Gothenburg and other stations the following morning.

If you're departing on a Friday for a Saturday changeover, outbound and return tickets must be booked together – with outbound travel on Friday and return on Saturday.

Sleep your way to the mountains
Snälltåget’s night train takes you all the way to Undersåker, with onward transfers to Edsåsdalen, Trillevallen, and Vålådalen. Choose between a seat, a berth in a shared compartment, or a private compartment for up to six – ideal for families or groups. Compartments easily convert from seating to sleeping mode, and bed linen is always included.

Booking made easy
Book your journey via our website – including both train and transfer. You can also pre-order meals, ski check-in, and extra baggage for a smoother journey. Booking is available at the top of the page or via the homepage.

Transfer from Undersåker
We offer pre-booked transfers to Edsåsdalen, Trillevallen and Vålådalen together with your train ticket. Simply search for your full destination directly in the booking – it couldn’t be easier.

Dine well on board
Our restaurant, Krogen, is open in the evening and serves breakfast in the morning. Pre-book your meals and table for a relaxed start to your trip.

Skis, sledges and large baggage
Bringing skis, a pram or a sledge? These must be checked in to our luggage coach (SEK 149 per item/leg). Private compartments have more space, but if travelling in a shared compartment or seat, skis must be checked in.

Bringing your pet
Pets are welcome in seating areas, private compartments, and on transfer buses. Just select the “I want to travel with a pet” option when booking.

Rebooking and cancellations
Tickets can be rebooked up to 24 hours before departure (7 days for private compartments). For train numbers 3904 and 3905, round trips must be booked together. Want the option to cancel? Choose a refundable ticket as an add-on.
