Snälltåget operates services to Åre and the Jämtland mountains during the summer and early autumn, from 24 June to 4 October 2026.

Connecting bus/taxi

In addition to our trains, you can always continue your journey with our connecting buses/taxis, which you can book together with your train journey.

In Undersåker, we offer transfers to Edsåsdalen, Trillevallen, and Vålådalen.

In Åre, we provide transfers to Björnen.

In Enafors, we offer transfers to Storulvån.

What’s happening in Åre in summer and autumn 2026?

Åre Extreme Challenge (opens in new tab)
When: 27 June 2026
The classic multisport event returns with new competition classes and updated course routes. Participants will take on a combination of paddling, running and cycling in Åre’s mountain landscape.

Fjällmaraton Gastronomy (opens in new tab)
When: 27–28 June 2026
An experience where mountain hiking meets food and drink. Choose between two distances and make your way at your own pace while local flavours are served along the route.

Åre Bike Festival (opens in new tab)
When: 1–5 July 2026
The bike festival gathers enthusiasts from near and far with competitions, clinics and social riding. Throughout the week, activities are offered for both beginners and experienced cyclists.

Kia Fjällmaraton (opens in new tab)
When: 25 July – 1 August 2026
A whole week filled with running races in various distances. Both participants and spectators meet in a festive atmosphere where the mountain landscape takes centre stage.

Västgård Game Fair (opens in new tab)
When: 31 July – 2 August 2026
The region’s largest countryside and wilderness fair is held in Kallbygden. Exhibitors and visitors with interests in hunting, dogs, engines, forestry, food and crafts gather here.

Åre Autumn Market (opens in new tab)
When: 25–27 September 2026
One of the region’s biggest markets with over 150 exhibitors. Visitors can enjoy harvest themes, local products, food experiences and activities around the Åre valley.

Opening hours for lifts and Åre Bike Park

The information below applies to 2025. We will update the page with information for 2026 as soon as planning is complete.

Åre Bike Park and the lifts are open from 6 June to 28 September 2025. During this period, you can enjoy both downhill biking and hiking in the mountain environment. 

Opening Hours for Åre Bike Park Downhill and Lifts

6–15 June: Friday–Sunday 10:00–16:00 (Stjärnliften). A selection of trails is open.
20–29 June:
Daily 10:00–16:00 (Stjärnliften, Kabinbanan, VM8:an). All trails open for the season.
30 June–17 August: Daily 10:00–16:00 (Stjärnliften, Kabinbanan, VM8:an, Gondolen). All trails open.
18–31 August: Daily 10:00–16:00 (Stjärnliften & Kabinbanan). Thursday–Sunday also VM8:an.
4–28 September: Thursday–Sunday 10:00–16:00 (Stjärnliften, VM8:an, Kabinbanan). All biking and hiking trails open.

Bergbanan (Funicular) Opening Hours

27 June–17 August: Daily 10:00–16:00 (departure every 20 minutes).
22 August–27 September: Friday–Saturday 10:00–16:00 (departure every 20 minutes).

Hiking for beginners?

Have you never hiked the mountains before, but would like to try? Our tip is to travel to Åre, check in at the Holiday Club (opens in new tab) or Copperhill (opens in new tab) and make easier day hikes at Åreskutan. Enjoy the fresh air and the stunning views during the day, indulge in a nice dinner in the evening and have a good night's sleep in white sheets. Åre Sweden (opens in new tab) offers you many tips on how to plan your hikes in Åre.

You can also choose to stay in a cabin or apartment, rented from AGO i Åre (opens in new tab) or Skistar Åre (opens in new tab).

An alternative if you have already been to Åre or would like to stay closer to nature, is staying in Edsåsdalen (opens in new tab) or at Vålådalens Fjällstation (opens in new tab). There are many nice trails for day hikes in the area.

For moderate or advanced hikers, the mountains in Jämtland and Härjedalen have a lot to offer.

Jämtlandstriangeln (The Jämtland Triangle), Thursday–Sunday

Buy your ticket to and from Storulvåns fjällstation (Storulvån mountain lodge). The train takes you to Enafors and from there we have a 30 minute bus ride to the mountain lodge in Storulvån. Have some more breakfast if you like, before starting the hike to Sylarna's mountain lodge for the first overnight stay. Continue to Blåhammaren's mountain lodge and enjoy a tasty dinner. The last day of hiking is your return to Storulvån. You can make some smaller hikes around the mountain lodge before departing on Sunday afternoon.

You can also hike from Blåhammaren to Storlien and take the train from Storlien on your way home.

Storulvån–Sylarna–Helags–Vålåstugorna–Vålådalen, Sunday–Thursday

Buy your ticket with arrival to Storulvåns fjällstation (Storulvån mountain lodge) and departure from Vålådalen. The train takes you to Enafors and from there we have a 30 minute bus ride to the mountain lodge in Storulvån. Have some more breakfast if you like, before starting the hike to Sylarna's mountain lodge for the first overnight stay. The next day, continue to Helgag's mountain lodge and enjoy a tasty dinner. The day after continues with a rather long hike, including wading across the river Ljungen to Vålåstugorna (the Vålå Cabins) where you can try a simple life with an outhouse and making your own dinner. The last day is hiking to Vålådalen where you can enjoy the surroundings on the last day before your return journet, when there is a bus journey back to Undersåker station.

Vålådalsfyrkanten (The Vålådal Square)

Buy your ticket to and from Vålådalens Fjällstation (Vålådalen mountain lodge). The train takes you to Undersåker and from there we have a 45 minute bus ride to Vålådalen. Maybe have some more brekafast and stock up on supplies before starting the hike towards Lunndören's mountain lodge. The hike is into four day hikes, with overnight stays in the mountain lodges of Lunndörren, Vålåstugorna and Stensdalen.
