Travelling with pets on Snälltåget
Pets are of course welcome on board. Animals such as dogs or cats can travel in designated areas on the train. Below you’ll find information on the rules and how to book.
Travelling with pets – what you need to know
Pets are welcome on board in designated pet areas or compartments. You may bring one pet per passenger.
Designated pet areas or compartments are available on most of our departures and routes. To travel with a pet, select "I want to travel with a pet" in the first step of the online booking process.
However, it is not possible to travel with pets to Austria. This is because stops along the route are not long enough to allow pets to be taken off the train, making the journey unsuitable for them.
When booking a seat
When booking a seat, select the option "I want to travel with a pet" in the first step of the online booking process.
The cost of bringing a pet is the same as travelling with a child under 16 years old.
When booking a private compartment
Pets are allowed in designated pet compartments on our night trains to the mountains (Jämtland and Härjedalen) and on night trains to Germany. To travel with a pet, you need to book one of these compartments by selecting "I want to travel with a pet" in the first step of the online booking process.
It is not possible to travel with pets to Austria. The reason is that stops along this route are not long enough to allow pets to be taken off the train, making the journey unsuitable for them.
Pets on connecting transfers
Pets are allowed on all our connecting transfer buses to Blekinge, Tingsryd, Växjö and our mountain destinations.
Please note: You and your pet should be seated at the rear of the bus.
Guide dogs
A guide dog assisting a visually impaired passenger may travel free of charge and is also permitted in areas other than the designated pet section.
Keep in mind
- You may bring one pet per passenger.
- Pets must remain on the floor and may not sit on seats or beds.
- For the comfort of allergy sufferers, pets are not allowed in other parts of the train. The only exception are guide dogs, which are allowed in all areas.
- If you cannot book a specific departure when selecting "I want to travel with a pet", it may be because pet spaces are sold out or that departure does not include a pet area.
