Luggage rules on Snälltåget

Here you'll find information about our luggage regulations and how checked baggage works.

Hand luggage allowance

You may bring two pieces of hand luggage measuring a maximum of 55 x 45 x 25 cm and one smaller personal item, such as a handbag.

To make things easier on board, we recommend packing in two smaller, soft bags rather than one large hard suitcase. Smaller bags are easier to carry on board and can be placed on the luggage rack or between the seats. Larger suitcases can be more difficult to handle and may block aisles or emergency exits.

If you book a private compartment, you may bring additional luggage – see below.

Private Compartment

If you book a Private Compartment, you can bring more luggage by using empty berths or seats to store your belongings. There are six berths or seats in a private compartment.

Tips for travellers in a Private Compartment on night trains: Avoid packing in one large suitcase for the entire group. Instead, divide your belongings into several smaller bags. This makes it easier to fit your luggage in the compartment on board.

Pushchairs / prams

Pushchairs must be folded during the entire journey, including boarding and alighting. Please note that there is a height difference between the platform and the train, and you must lift the pram onboard yourself.

Bicycles

Due to limited space, we are generally unable to accept bicycles on most of our trains. Foldable bikes are permitted if they fit within the hand luggage dimensions (55 x 45 x 25 cm).

On our summer and autumn trains to Jämtland and Härjedalen, you can check in your bike in the luggage carriage. Read more about bicycle check-in.

Checked baggage

On most of our departures to Jämtland (trains 3900/3901, trains 3902/3903, trains 3904/3905 and trains 24/25) and Austria (trains 304/305), you can check in larger baggage for an additional fee. Please note: baggage check-in is not available for passengers travelling via Röjan.

We recommend booking baggage check-in when purchasing your ticket. If you’ve already booked your ticket, you can add checked baggage afterwards via My Journey.

Ensure that all baggage is labelled with your name and phone number. Skis must be in a case, and bicycles must be properly packed. Larger bags must not exceed 80 x 50 x 35 cm or weigh more than 23 kg. Checked baggage is returned against a receipt.

Check-in and collection of luggage takes place at the train on the platform before departure and after arrival. Checked baggage is usually stored in a luggage carriage in the middle of the train. Please note that you will not have access to checked baggage during the journey, so be sure to pack a separate bag for items you need onboard.

Lost property

We keep lost items for three months. If you have left something on board, send us an email to snalltaget@snalltaget.se with your booking number, the date you travelled with us, and a description of what you have forgotten, and we will contact you if we receive the item you are looking for.
